Tour Itinerary

  • Day 1:
    Chicago — Olso

    Depart Chicago O’Hare on your Scandinavian Airlines transatlantic flight or request space from your home city upon registration. For further information, see Air Transportation under Terms & Conditions.
  • Day 2:
    Oslo

    [D]
    Arrive at Gardermoen Airport Oslo. Transfer to hotel in city center. Balance of day free to relax and adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at the Grand Hotel.
  • Day 3:
    Oslo

    [B]
    Morning sightseeing tour of Norway’s capital city includes a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum. Balance of day free to explore this vibrant city. Dinner on own.
  • Day 4:
    Oslo — Vrådal

    [B, D]
    Depart for Telemark an area rich in cultural traditions. Tour Heddal Stave Church, Norway’s largest stave church from the 12th century. Proceed to Rjukan. Visit the Industrial Museum and Vemork Power Station, where the Nazis produced “Heavy Water” for their atomic bomb experiments during the war. Continue to Vrådal for dinner and overnight at the Quality Straand Hotel.
  • Day 5:
    Vrådal — Grimstad

    Telemark is home to many famous writers and artists. Visit a silversmith where beautiful silver jewelry and ornaments are produced, and also a sales outlet featuring products from the largest producer of stone goods in Norway. Proceed to Grimstad, a small maritime city nestled along the Norwegian coastline. Dinner and overnight at Rica Grimstad Hotel.
  • Day 6:
    Grimstad — Kristiansand — Stavanger

    Visit Kristiansand, "the capital of Southern Norway", and proceed on the North Sea Scenic Highway, the link between Southern and Western Norway. En route to Stavanger, we pass through Jæren, one of Norway’s leading agricultural districts. At Byrkjedalstunet, enjoy a traditional Norwegian dinner in what was formerly a cheese dairy. Proceed to Stavanger, a hub of the North Sea oil exploration and development operations. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Stavanger.
  • Day 7:
    Stavanger

    Morning sightseeing tour of Stavanger. This modern Norwegian city is a charming mixture of old and new, retaining much of its 18th century charm. Afternoon free for independent explorations. Dinner on own.
  • Day 8:
    Stavanger — Lofthus

    Drive the underwater tunnels from Randaberg to Rennesøy. Ferry from Mortavika to Arsvågen and from Skånevik to Utåker. Box lunch. Continue to scenic Rosendal, at the mouth of the Hardanger Fjord. Visit the Rosendal Barony, a renaissance castle from the 1600’s surrounded by a lovely garden and park. Proceed to Lofthus, located in the heart of Norway’s cherry, apple and pear orchards. Dinner and overnight at the exquisite Hotel Ullensvang, located along the Sørfjord.
  • Day 9:
    Excursion in area

    Excursion to Kjeåsen, the famous mountain farm perched like an eagle’s nest on a mountain ledge. In Eidfjord visit the Hardanger Fjord Nature Center, reflecting the Norwegians love and respect for nature. Experience an exhilarating journey as we view a panoramic movie and soar over Western Norway's mountains, fjords and waterfalls. Drive to the wild Måbødal Canyon. View the Vøring Waterfall plunging 6700 feet into a narrow rock basin. Shopping stop at Hardanger Tinn prior to returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
  • Day 10:
    Lofthus — Os

    Experience the famous “Norway in a Nutshell” excursion, taking you through some of the most breathtaking scenery in Fjord Norway. Depart Voss by train to Myrdal. Change to the Flåm Line, deemed by some as the most fantastic train ride in Europe. Descend the Flåm Valley, dropping 2800 feet within 13 miles to the idyllic fjord community of Flåm. Cruise the dramatic Nærøy and Aurland Fjords from Flåm to Gudvangen. Proceed to Os, south of Bergen. Dinner and overnight at the lovely Solstrand Hotel & Bad along the beautiful Bjørnefjord.
  • Day 11:
    Bergen Excursion

    Morning sightseeing tour of Norway’s second largest city includes a visit to Troldhaugen, home of Norway’s internationally-known composer, the late Edvard Grieg. Tour concludes with a guided walk through the historic Hanseatic Wharf. Balance of afternoon free. Return to Os for farewell dinner and overnight.
  • Day 12:
    Os — Bergen — USA

    Tour ends following breakfast. Transfer to airport for return flight. Longer stays may be requested upon registration for an additional charge of $50.
