Morning sightseeing tour of Bergen. Walk through the colorful Fish and Flower Market, and the historic Hanseatic Wharf area. Visit the Hanseatic Museum, providing an intimate picture of merchant life during the Hanseatic period. Afterward, tour of the city environs. Afternoon and evening free. Dinner on own. Overnight at First Hotel Marin. [B]

Drive along the shores of Søerfjord, descend the magnificent wild gorge of Tokagjelet Ravine with its tunnels, roaring rivers, and waterfalls. Travel to the Hardangerfjord region and the Steinsdalfoss Waterfall. After taking a ferry to lunch at the Rosendal Fjord Hotel, continue on to Lofthus, often called “the Orchard of Norway.” Lofthus was an inspiration to composers like Edvard Grieg. Dinner and overnight at the exquisite Ullensvang Hotel. [B,L,D]

Day 5 May 12/ May 26 / June 11 / June 28 / July 14 / July 28 / Aug. 11 / Aug. 27 / Sept. 10 / Sept. 24 Lofthus - Balestrand
Ferry across the Hardanger Fjord. En route to Voss, pass the thundering Skjervet Waterfall. Depart by train on the famous Oslo/Bergen Railway. At Myrdal change to the renowned Flåm Railway ranked as one of the top 20 train rides in the world. Within 13 miles descend 2800 feet to the idyllic fjord community of Flåm. Enjoy a 2- hour cruise on the impressive Sognefjord, the deepest and longest fjord in the world. Sail past cascading waterfalls, isolated hamlets, and steep mountainsides. Continue to the lovely fjord village of Balestrand. Overnight at the charming Kvikne’s Hotel. [B,D]

Morning at leisure. Afternoon ferry fromDragsvik to Vangsnes. In Vik, visit the 12th-century Hopperstad Stave Church. Return to Bergen. Board your Coastal ship. Dinner and overnight on board ship. (B,D)

You’ll experience the breathtaking scenery along the coast, crossing the Arctic Circle on your way to Vadsø. Highlights of this voyage include the Art Nouveau architecture of Ålesund, the scenic Geirangerfjord (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the 1,000-year-old Trondheim, the magnificent Lofoten Islands, the majestic Trollfjord, and the lively town of Tromsø. Morning arrival in Vadsø. Following disembarkation, drive to Karasjok, capital of the Sami. Enjoy a typical Sami dinner in a Sami turf hut (“gamme”), sitting on reindeer skins around an open fire. Overnight at Rica Hotel. [B,D]

After breakfast, tour Oslo. You'll visit many sites, including the impressive Viking Ship Museum, housing a collection of the artifacts from the Viking era, the medieval Akershus Fortress, and the Royal Palace.
