Day 1 - Wednesday, May 13
Chicago—Oslo: Depart Chicago O’Hare on your Scandinavian Airlines transatlantic flight or request space from your home city upon registration. For further information, see Air Transportation under

Day 2 - Thursday, May 14 [D]
Oslo—Sarpsborg: Arrive at Gardermoen Airport Oslo. Transfer by coach to the district of Østfold, home of Norway’s great explorer Roald Amundsen, as well as the spiritual leader, Hans Nilsen Hauge. Balance of day free to relax and adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at Quality Hotel & Resort Sarpsborg.
Day 3 - Friday, May 15 [B,D]
Local excursions with side-trip to Sweden: Today’s excursion is an opportunity to learn about Norway’s history with Sweden. Drive to Halden, situated on the Norwegian/Swedish border. Tour Fredriksten Fortress. Built in 1661 as protection from the Swedes, the fortress has been attacked six times, but never conquered. The last action took place in 1905 when Norway dissolved its union with Sweden at which time cannons were deployed and thousands of soldiers mobilized. Fortunately, negotiations resulted in a peaceful solution. Since then the fortress has been maintained as a monument to military history. Cross the Svinesund Bridge connecting Norway with Sweden and the rest of Europe and set foot in Sweden. Visit Fredrikstad, Norway’s best preserved fortress town. Return to Sarpsborg. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4 - Saturday, May 16 [B,D]
Sarpsborg—Oslo: Drive to Rakkestad and see how pottery is made at Lannem Pottery and visit the local gift store with a large selection of ceramics, textiles and Norwegian jewelry. Continue to Oslo for a 3-hour sightseeing tour, which includes a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum. Dinner and overnight at the classic Grand Hotel.
Day 5 - Sunday, May 17 [B,D]
Oslo: Catch the spirit of May 17, Norway’s Constitution Day. View the children’s parade and enjoy the activities of this festive day. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 6 - Monday, May 18 [B,D]
Oslo—Morgedal: Drive to Telemark, an area rich in cultural traditions. Visit Heddal Stave Church, Norway’s largest stave church from the 12th century. Continue to Rjukan and learn about the German occupation of Norway during World War II. Visit Vemork, the hydroelectric power plant, where the Nazis produced "heavy water" for their atomic bomb experiments. Proceed to Morgedal for dinner and overnight at Morgedal Hotel.
Day 7 - Tuesday, May 19 [B,D]
Morgedal—Lofthus: Following a tour of the Norwegian Ski Adventure Center offering an exciting adventure through the history of modern skiing, travel over Haukeligrend to Røldal. Drive along the Sør Fjord to Kinsarvik for a tour and shopping opportunity at Hardanger Tinn, a pewter factory. Continue to Lofthus, located in Hardanger, the heart of Norway’s cherry, apple and pear orchards. Enjoy the splendor of springtime amidst the colorful and fragrant fruit blossoms. Dinner and overnight at the exquisite Ullensvang Hotel with a spectacular view of the Sør Fjord.
Day 8 - Wednesday, May 20 [B,D]
Lofthus—Flåm—Os: Ferry across the Hardanger Fjord from Brimnes to Bruravik. Proceed to Voss. Drive the thrilling Stalheim Road and cruise the spectacular Nærøy and Aurland Fjords (placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2005) from Gudvangen to Flåm. Board the Flåm Railway, ranked as one of the top 20 train rides in the world. Within 13 miles ascend 2800 feet to Myrdal, where we transfer to the famous Oslo/Bergen Railway and continue by train to Voss. Proceed by motor coach to Os, south of Bergen. Dinner and overnight at the lovely Solstrand Hotel, located by the beautiful Bjørnefjord.
Day 9 - Thursday, May 21 [B,D]
Excursion to Bergen: Morning sightseeing tour of Bergen starts with a visit to Troldhaugen, home of Norway’s internationally-known composer, the late Edvard Grieg. Tour concludes with a guided walk through the historic Hanseatic Wharf, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afternoon free to visit the famous Fish Market, ride the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for a spectacular view of Bergen, or stroll through the old cobble-stoned streets. Return to Solstrand for farewell dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 10 Friday, May 22 [B]
