Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Monday, July 22 Mpls/St. Paul―Bergen

Depart the USA on your transatlantic flight. To request alternate dates or for estimated airfare supplements from other US cities, please note on application.

Day 2: Tuesday, July 23 Bergen

Arrive at Bergen Flesland Airport. Transfer to hotel. Balance of day free to adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at the Clarion Admiral Hotel.

Day 3: Wednesday, July 24 Bergen

Morning sightseeing tour of Norway’s second largest city includes a walk through the historic Hanseatic Wharf (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and a visit to Troldhaugen, home of Norway’s internationally-known composer, the late Edvard Grieg. Afternoon and evening free to visit the famous Fish Market or ride the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for a magnificent view of Bergen. Dinner on own. Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Thursday, July 25 Bergen―Voss―Flåm

Morning drive to Voss. Transfer to the Oslo/Bergen Railway and continue to Myrdal and board the famous Flåm Railway, ranked as one of the top 20 train rides in the world. Enjoy breathtaking views and the thundering sound of waterfalls as we descend 2800 feet within 13 miles from Myrdal to Flåm. In the afternoon, travel to Undredal, a little village squeezed in between tall mountains. Undredal is inhabited by 80 people and almost 500 goats. It is also home to the smallest church in Scandinavia, built as a stave church in 1147. Visit Eldhuset for an introduction to the tradition of farming in the mountains, as well as the making of goat cheese. Dinner. Return to Flåm for overnight at the Fretheim Hotel.

Day 5: Friday, July 26 Flåm―Loen

Morning drive through the world's 2nd longest tunnel from Aurland to Lærdal. Ferry across the mighty Sognefjord. Opportunity to purchase quality crafts and woven products at Audhild Viken’s Weaving Workshop in Skei. Excursion to the sparkling Briksdal Glacier. Continue to Loen. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Alexandra.

Day 6: Saturday, July 27 Excursion to Nordfjordeid

Drive to the Norwegian Fjord Horse Center in Nordfjordeid, where we learn about the history of the Norwegian fjord horse. The center is dedicated to research of this particular breed of horses. Return to Loen. Balance of day free for optional activities such as riding the Loen Skylift; kayaking, fishing, and hiking. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: Sunday, July 28 Loen―Ålesund

Morning departure for the Art Nouveau town of Ålesund. Drive to Aksla viewpoint for a panoramic view of the archipelago, the beautiful town center and the amazing Sunnmøre Alps. Balance of day free. Overnight at Scandic Parken Ålesund.

Day 8: Monday, July 29 Ålesund―Geiranger―Bøverdal

Cruise the renowned Geirangerfjord from Hellesylt to Geiranger. Weather permitting, drive to Dalsnibba Observation Point for a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord. Continue to Lom en route to Bøverdal. Dinner and overnight at Elveseter Hotell, a historic hotel with a superb collection of art and antiques located in Jotunheimen National Park.

Day 9: Tuesday, July 30 Bøverdal―Lillehammer―Oslo

Drive to Lillehammer via the historic Gudbrandsdal Valley with farmlands, forest and numerous historical points of interest. View the site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Tour Maihaugen, an open-air museum with over 200 buildings from different eras. Visit a local farm to meet a Norwegian family and savor a traditional Norwegian “middag” for dinner. Proceed to Oslo. Overnight at the Grand Hotel Oslo.

Day 10: Wednesday, July 31 Oslo

Morning sightseeing tour of Oslo includes a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum. Balance of afternoon free for shopping and independent explorations. Farewell dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 11: Thursday, August 1 Oslo―Depart

Tour ends following breakfast. Transfer to airport for return flight. Longer stays may be requested upon registration for a minimum charge of $150.
