Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Harstad

Arrival in Harstad according to your own itinerary. We recommend Harstad to be your pick-up point for the car rental (car rental not included in price). Overnight in Harstad at the Scandic Harstad or similar.

Day 2: Harstad – Andenes

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Harstad towards Andenes the green Vesterålen islands. On your way to Andenes you will drive through valleys and beautiful villages located on the shores of the fjords, and we recommend selecting the route through Kvæfjord, which naturally includes the short ferry-crossing between Refsnes and Flesnes (ferry not included in price – must be paid locally). Overnight in Andenes at the Hotell Marena or similar.

Days 3: Andenes – Svolvaer

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive from Andenes towards Svolvær “the capital” of the Lofoten Islands. Svolvær offers the atmosphere of a harbor, a small town and art center simultaneously. Passing through small towns, make a stop in the old trading center Stokmarknes to visit the museum of the coastal express Hurtigruten. For centuries,
catching cod and drying them has been a way of life and Lofoten’s largest industry. Two of the most recognizable sights are the fishermen’s shacks (rorbu) and the Stockfish (cod) that has been hung to dry on a wooden frame. The Lofoten means mountain peaks, open sea and protected bays. Thanks to the Golf Stream the climate here is milder than in other parts of the world at the same latitude. Overnight in a traditional rorbu in Svolvær.

Day 4: Explore the surroundings

Breakfast at the hotel and your day can be enjoyed at leisure as you explore the Lofoten Islands. We recommend a visit to Stamsund – to explore and enjoy this delightful region. The most important trading goods are the stockfish which still is produced here and exported to southern Europe, South America and Africa. Stamsund is still a vibrant fishing port in Lofoten but is also a culturally interesting town with several local artists, theater groups and an art gallery. We also suggest some time to visit the Lofotr Viking Museum, a historical museum based on a reconstruction and archaeological excavation of a Viking chieftain's village in Borg. Overnight in a traditional rorbu in Svolvær.

Day 5: Svolvær – Reine

Breakfast at the hotel. Spend some time strolling along one of the many sandy beaches as you travel to Reine today. It is almost a Caribbean feeling – fine white sand, clear turquoise water as the beautiful beach of Ramberg. But keep your jacket close by; the temperatures are not quite the same. We recommend a stop in Nusfjord if you want to experience an authentic fishing village (fiskevær). In Nusfjord, you can find most of the buildings which were part of one of Norway's leading fish buying stations of its time. Nusfjord has an intertwining building area, which evolved at the end of the 19th- Century and the beginning of the 20th-Century. Overnight in a traditional rorbu in Reine.

Day 6: Excursion to Å

Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy your day at leisure. A few minutes’ drive takes you to Å, a small village in the south of the archipelago. The village is a museum with typical rorbu, bakery and boathouses, which are more than 150 years old and still in their original place. You are looking for a bit more adrenalin? Then you can engage in a whale watching, RIB, Sea Eagle, kayaking, hiking or climbing excursion. Or you can experience one of the most popular hikes of Norway, called Reinebringen. (Demanding).
Overnight in a traditional rorbu in Reine.

Day 7: Reine – Henningsvær

Breakfast at the Hotel. On the way back to Harstad we propose you to stay one night in the beautiful Henningsvær, located on several small islands in the Lofoten Archipelago. It is known as one of the biggest fishermen villages and known for its traditional fishing village architecture. We recommend visiting “Galleri Lofoten Hus” or take a walk around the harbor. Overnight in a traditional rorbu in Henningsvær.

Day 8: Henningsvær – Harstad

Drive back to Harstad and return rental car. Time to say time to say “Good Bye!” to the beautiful Lofoten Islands. Overnight in Harstad at the Scandic Harstad or similar.

Day 9: Harstad

Tour ends following breakfast at hotel.
