Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Saturday, July 7 Mpls/St. Paul—Oslo

Depart the USA on your transatlantic flight. To request alternate dates or for estimated airfare supplements from other US cities, please note on application.

Day 2: Sunday, July 8 Oslo

Arrive at Gardermoen Airport Oslo. Transfer to hotel in city center. Balance of day free to relax and adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at the classic Grand Hotel.

Day 3: Monday, July 9 Oslo

Morning sightseeing tour of Norway’s capital city includes a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum. Balance of day free to explore this vibrant city. Dinner on own.

Day 4: Tuesday, July 10 Oslo—Rjukan

Depart for Telemark, an area rich in cultural traditions and home to many famous writers and artists. Tour Heddal Stave Church, Norway’s largest stave church from the 12th century. Proceed to Rjukan. Visit the Industrial Museum and Vemork Power Station, where the Nazis produced “Heavy Water” for their atomic bomb experiments during the war. Dinner and overnight at Gaustablikk Hotel.

Day 5: Wednesday, July 11 Rjukan—Kristiansand

Proceed to Kristiansand, “the capital of Southern Norway,” a small maritime city nestled along the Norwegian coastline. Dinner. Overnight at Thon Hotel Kristiansand.

Day 6: Thursday, July 12 Kristiansand—Stavanger

Proceed on the North Sea Scenic Highway, the link between Southern and Western Norway. En route to Stavanger, we pass through Jæren, one of Norway’s leading agricultural districts. At Byrkjedalstunet, enjoy a traditional Norwegian dinner in what was formerly a cheese dairy. Proceed to Stavanger, the hub of North Sea oil exploration and development operations. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Stavanger.

Day 7: Friday, July 13 Stavanger—Lofthus

Morning sightseeing tour of Stavanger. This modern Norwegian city is a charming mixture of old and new, retaining much of its 18th century charm. Drive the underwater tunnels from Randaberg to Rennesøy. Ferry from Mortavika to Arsvågen. Proceed to Ølen. Visit a local rosemaling artist. Light lunch before continuing to Lofthus, located in the heart of Norway’s cherry, apple and pear orchards. Dinner and overnight in fjord view rooms at Hotel Ullensvang along the Sørfjord.

Day 8: Saturday, July 14 Excursion in area

Excursion to Eidfjord for a visit to the Hardangervidda Nature Center, reflecting the Norwegians love and respect for nature. Drive to a shopping stop with opportunity to purchase Norwegian pewter. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Sunday, July 15 Lofthus—Norway in a Nutshell—Os/Bergen

Drive across the Hardanger Bridge, which is 328 feet longer than the Golden Gate Bridge, and proceed to Voss. Continue by train to Myrdal and change to the Flåm Line. Descend the Flåm Valley, dropping 2800 feet within 13 miles to the idyllic fjord community of Flåm. Cruise the dramatic Aurlandfjord and Nærøyfjord from Flåm to Gudvangen. Proceed to Os, south of Bergen. Dinner and overnight at the lovely Solstrand Hotel & Bad along the beautiful Bjørnefjord.

Day 10: Monday, July 16 Bergen Excursion

Morning sightseeing tour of Bergen includes a visit to Troldhaugen, home of Norway’s renowned musician, the late Edvard Grieg. Tour concludes with a guided walk through the historic Hanseatic Wharf. Balance of afternoon free. Return to Os for farewell dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Tuesday, July 17 Os/Bergen—Depart

Tour ends following breakfast. Transfer to Flesland Airport for return flight. Longer stays may be requested upon registration for a minimum charge of $150.
