Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Monday, July 22 Mpls/St. Paul―Bergen

Depart the USA on your transatlantic flight. To request alternate dates or for estimated airfare supplements from other US cities, please note on application.

Day 2: Tuesday, July 23 Bergen

Arrive at Bergen Flesland Airport. Transfer to hotel. Balance of day free to adjust to time change. Welcome dinner and overnight at the Clarion Admiral Hotel.

Day 3: Wednesday, July 24 Bergen―Voss

Morning sightseeing tour includes Troldhaugen, the home of Norway’s internationally-known composer, the late Edvard Grieg; and a walk through the historic Hanseatic Wharf. Drive to Voss. Tour the Voss Church. Dinner and overnight at Fleischer’s Hotel.

Day 4: Thursday, July 25 Voss

Visit Finnesloftet, a banquet hall built around 1250, and the Voss Folk Museum (Mølstertunet), a farmstead with buildings from the 16th century and a rich collection of folk art. Afternoon free for independent exploration or opportunity for individual farm visits. (Individual arrangements may involve extra charges.) Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 5: Friday, July 26 Voss―Flåm―Stalheim

Ride the Oslo/Bergen Railway to Myrdal. Board the famous Flåm Railway, ranked as one of the top 20 train rides in the world. Descend 2800 feet within 13 miles from Myrdal to Flåm. Cruise the Aurlandfjord and Nærøyfjord from Flåm to Gudvangen. Drive to Stalheim. Dinner and overnight at the Stalheim Hotel.

Day 6: Saturday, July 27 Stalheim―Flåm―Sogndal

Drive the thrilling Stalheim Road with 13 hairpin bends en route to Flåm. Stop in Undredal, home to almost 500 goats and only 80 people. Visit Eldhuset for an introduction to the tradition of farming in the mountains, as well as the making of goat cheese. Lunch. Proceed to Flåm. Visit Flåm Church and witness the reconstruction of the lower valley after the historic flood in 2014. Continue to Aurland. Visit the Vangen Church built in 1202. Drive over the high mountains to Stegastein Viewpoint for a spectacular view of Norway’s fjord country. Continue over the Snow Road to Lærdal. Ferry across the mighty Sognefjord and proceed to Sogndal. Dinner and overnight at Quality Hotel Sogndal.

Day 7: Sunday, July 28 Luster and Skjolden Excursion

Drive through the Jostedal Valley. Visit the Norwegian Glacier Center at Nigardsbreen. Continue to Skjolden Hotel for lunch. Drive along the eastern shore of the Lusterfjord to Urnes. Tour the Urnes Stave Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to Sogndal for dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 8: Monday, July 29 Sogndal―Fagernes

Tour the Sogn Folk Museum, which provides an insight into life in Sogn from the Middle Ages to the present. Drive through the scenic and historic Lærdal Valley. Visit the Borgund Stave Church, one of the best preserved of the remaining stave churches. Continue through the beautiful Valdres Valley to Fagernes. Dinner and overnight at Scandic Valdres.

Day 9: Tuesday, July 30 Fagernes

Tour the Valdres Folk Museum. Afternoon free for independent exploration or opportunity for individual farm visits. (Individual arrangements may involve extra charges.) Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 10: Wednesday, July 31 Fagernes―Oslo

Proceed to Oslo via Jevnaker. Opportunity to purchase Norwegian glass/crystal at reduced prices at Hadeland Glassworks. Upon arrival in Oslo, enjoy a sightseeing tour featuring Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum. Overnight at the Grand Hotel.

Day free in Oslo for sightseeing or family heritage site visits. Farewell dinner and overnight at hotel.

Tour ends following breakfast. Transfer to Gardermoen Oslo Airport for return flight. Longer stays may be requested upon registration for a minimum charge of $150.
